O`ahu

By Carol Miguel and Keith Haugen

Misty rains embrace the mountains
Golden Sunshine warms the sand
Tradewinds catch a falling blossom
This is O`ahu, this is my land

Country charms of Hale`iwa
Neon nights in Waikiki
It's an island ever changing
This is O`ahu, this land is me

There are many islands with beauty to give
But this special place is where I want to live

I have searched and found my rainbow
And from here, I'll never roam
It's a place for all to gather
This O`ahu, my Island home

Carol Miguel wrote the lyrics for this beautiful song and carried them around for years, looking for the right composer. She asked Keith to set them to music. He wrote the melody in about 15 minutes as he sang through her lyrics, memorized the song that day and invited her to the Royal Hawaiian Hotel for a premier performance that night. It was first recorded on "Keith & Carmen at the Royal" in 1987, and has also been recorded by Rhonda on her "Lei of Memories" LP.
