Carmen's Song
By Keith Haugen
All the world seemed so dark after she'd gone away
As if the light in my life had gone out on that day
All alone in the crowd; no one seemed to care
Until I saw you standing there. And then
Across the room, when your eyes met mine
I knew that I was in love
You were like an angel to me
My gift from Heaven above
When you smiled, your eyes seemed to say
That you'd be mine tonight
Then as you danced into my arms
Everything seemed all right.
Then as we danced the night away
My whole world seemed so bright.

First written as an instrumental, "Carmen's Song" was recorded more than 15 years ago by `ukulele virtuoso Ohta-san and the Rich Crandall Trio, and by Robbie Kaholokula. Robbie's version of this popular waltz was nominated for the "Instrumental of the Year" award in the 1980 Na Hoku Hanohano awards program for outstanding local recordings. The composer added lyrics several years later and recorded it on the `Ukulele Lady CD.
