This Land is Your Land,God Bless America, and
The Stars and Stripes Forever, sung by

Picture these three singer/songwriters –
all old enough to remember several of our wars -- sitting around in Rendez-vous
Studios in beautiful Manoa Valley on Veterans Day 2001 – just jammin' and singing
a few patriotic songs. Three voices, three guitars, three songs. The “patriotic
medley” that resulted is a fitting wrap for a CD of songs about soldiers, sailors,
Marines, airmen, merchant marines – veterans all. That’s the closing cut
on this keepsake recording.
And here's a little
background about the artists:
Gordon Manuel Freitas, Hawaiian local folk troubadour, is a performing songwriter
whose "Peaceful Arizona" won a spot on the 1997 Homegrown album and
was later recorded by the USAF Band of the Pacific. His first two albums won
Hawai'i Music Awards and he extends his talents even further as a storyteller.
He entertains regularly in Waikiki - at Cheeseburger in Paradise - and on the
Star of Honolulu. He's here, he's there, he's everywhere. And you'll know why
when you listen to him on this CD. Gordo was the lead guitarist and played
bass and harmonica on "Cordell Country." He is a retired US
Navy Chief Petty Officer.

Don "Geezer" Humphrey, is the top country singer in Hawai`i. Although originally from
Canada (he moved to the USA at a time when many young American men were moving
to Canada to avoid a war), he first made his mark in country music in the highly
competitive country music market in California, where his band opened for such
noted artists as Merle Haggard. He moved to Hawai`i in the 90s and is
best known as the leader of the country band called The Geezers. It was
Don's country pickin' and rhythm guitar that made "CordellCountry"
the most traditional country music CD ever recorded and released in Hawai`i.
He performs one night a week at Hank's Cafe Honolulu, one night at the Banana
Patch Lounge in the Hotel Miramar in Waikiki, and one night a week at the Dixie
Grille in`Aiea.

Cordell
Keith Haugen
is best known as one half of the Hawaiian music and hula duo, Keith & Carmen,
regulars in Waikiki for 30 years and at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel since March
1986. After many all-Hawaiian recordings, Keith realized a childhood dream
in 2000, when Don & Gordon, vocalists Carmen Haugen and Nanilisa Pascua,
fiddlers Lee Carney, Katie & Jay Linskey, and steel/dobro artist Greg Sardinha
helped him put out "CordellCountry." Haugen is a former US Army
Staff Sergeant.
The trio gets an assist on this recording
from the well-known musician and recording engineer, Pierre Grill of Rendez-VousRecording Studios in Manoa. Pierre plays
the keyboard on this recording, and he both recorded and mixed the finished
product.
Senator
Daniel K. Inouye,
who narrates “Yes, We Remember,” also reads the inscription on the USS Arizona
Memorial in this recording of “We Still Care” is one of ranking Senators in
the USA. He is a former US Army Captain, a much-decorated hero of World War
II in Europe.
Bob
Nelson is the
composer of such popular songs as“The Maui Waltz,” “Hanalei Moon” and many others.
The
Sounds of Aloha Chorus
is one of the best choral groups in Hawai`i.
